This wonderful site, little explored, is surrounded by an impressive oasis in the middle of a canyon full of fruit trees, palms, reeds and dates. This destination can be enjoyed at any time of the year and also has the historic Mission of San José de Comondú, cave paintings of more than thousands of years and basaltic rocks. Its landscapes are worthy of the best photography, as well as its unique and endemic flora and fauna, its cobbled path, the streams, its orchards and the old houses built with adobe and thatched roofs. Likewise, its wines, fruits, crafts and typical gastronomy stand out.
Activities
Cave paintings
Work of the pre-Columbian indigenous groups that inhabited the region, specifically the Cochimíes and the Pericues. It is believed that they were a form of communication and expression for these peoples, and could have been used to tell stories, convey information about the natural environment, or for religious rites and ceremonies. These are the most vulnerable art manifestations that exist, due to their antiquity and exposure to erosion and the passage of time.
Basaltic Prisms
A natural wonder that harbors a great biological diversity in the midst of a desert area. The Basaltic Prisms are geometric formations that adorn part of the mountain range of the Sierra de la Giganta. These large blocks of basalt originated over 6 million years ago. Basalt Prisms are formed through a process of rapid cooling of magma or lava. When magma is near the Earth's surface and cools rapidly, it solidifies into a crystalline structure called a basaltic column.
Gastronomy
The same recipes and cooking techniques taught by the Jesuits over 300 years ago are still preserved, allowing visitors to experience traditional dishes such as cabrito a la leña (roasted goat on a spit) or sipai, a local version of lasagna with regional ingredients such as pork, raisins, olives, dried chilies, and flour tortillas. All the food consumed is locally sourced, meaning it is farm-to-table. This guarantees that visitors can enjoy fresh, organic and high-quality ingredients that are native to the region.
